This project, favoring the transnational approach, creates a new, biographical narrative of the Holocaust history. The idea of the project, to form the shared narratives in form of the biographical approach to the Holocaust stories, has gathered well-respected and relevant institutions and experts from the Central and South-East Europe region participating in the project, making thereby the named region the place of encounter and communication.
The research focus of this project is therefore on the Holocaust as an integrated history since, as Saul Friedländer writes, “The history of the Holocaust is not only confined to German decision and actions. It is therefore necessary to recount an integrated history which also takes account of the Jewish perspective.” In addition, a focus on transnational perspectives means that the Holocaust is researched as a part of an “entangled history” of a Central and a South-East Europe.
By offering its research results and activities i.e. by presenting new scientific publications, exhibitions and discussions – that encourage a development of transnational strategies for commemoration of the Holocaust Memorial Days, including the educational aspects and the international exchange of expertise, in the region countries and elsewhere – to a broad audience this project gives additional substance and educational value to the events of the Holocaust Memorial Days in Central and South-East Europe.
